Good coaches establish trust and a rapport with the people being instructed. They should encourage with praise, build confidence with graduated experiences and give honest and constructive feedback.
1. Establish a rapport
Spend time establishing a rapport with the people you are coaching. Make sure they fully understand what is expected of them and explain the possible rewards for achievements.
2. Arrange for systematic coaching
Challenge them with graduated step by step experiences to build their confidence.
3. Feedback is the key to improvement
Give regular feedback and helpful constructive reports on progress.
Explain methods and changes fully.
4. Reward effort and achievements
Praise good work and encourage people to improve.
Returns from learning should be more earnings.
5. New skills must be practised
People become frustrated if the new skills they have learned are not put into practice soon after coaching.
