The Best Handful of Tips 47 – How to be a Better Leader
A good leader knows how to involve people in team efforts, pays attention to details and standards and is able to delegate responsibility to others. They lead by setting good examples for others to follow.
Leaders are people who know where they want to go, and with energy and enthusiasm, get up and go. Good leaders can be recognised because their people give superior performances.
Five of the best leadership tips
-
Make sure your people always understand clearly what is expected of them
Tasks and instructions should be given both verbally and in writing. Make plenty of opportunities for feedback and answering questions.
Good communication systems are essential to keep all people well informed of developing situations and are essential to inspire people to make greater efforts.
-
Your people must have guidance in their tasks and know who to go to for advice and mentoring
They should have only one leader otherwise they will get confused and discouraged. ( There is on old English saying; “Too many cooks spoil the broth.”)
-
Share credits with others
Be honest with your people. Give credit where credit is due. Admit your mistakes and be humble and modest and remember at all times you are also a team member and not an autocratic boss.
Good efforts should be praised or rewarded publicly. Poor efforts should be constructively criticised privately.
-
Encourage your people to improve themselves
Give them opportunities to show they can accept greater responsibilities.
Challenge them with worthwhile tasks.
Be flexible and try to make work enjoyable. Remove rules and restrictions and try to make tasks exciting and fun.
Forgive mistakes and accept them as learning experiences.
-
Make sure your people are looked after, encouraged and work in a safe and healthy environment
Leadership is lifting people’s visions, raising their performance to higher levels and developing their personality above and beyond their expected levels.
