Rolling On – The Best Handful of Tips 113 – Are You a PROCRASTINATOR?

Are You a PROCRASTINATOR?

Our world is cluttered with unfinished projects that have been put aside to do later when we have the time.

          The longer we put off a task the harder it becomes. We say – we are too busy, or the job is too big to start just now, or we haven’t thought through how it could be done.

          There is nothing more fatiguing than worrying about an uncompleted task.

          A leader’s procrastination can reduce the productivity of the whole team.

          A procrastinator is a person with a ‘wait problem’.

Five of the best tips to help you overcome procrastination

* Make a commitment to start

          Make a plan.

          If it’s a big job, list the broad steps you will need to take. Break it up into set tasks.

          If it’s a report ‘mind map’ it, setting out keywords before you start.

* Tell others

          When you make a commitment to finish on a certain date you are more likely to finish on time.

* Break big jobs up

          Break up big jobs into smaller practical units and get started.

          Make a realistic ‘to do list’ and set time limits.  By completing one section at a time you will be encouraged to tackle the next step.

* Set deadlines

          When budgeting your time include your social, family and physical activities.

          Make an effort to develop good working habits and time-saving systems. Focus on meaningful goals and reward yourself when you meet a deadline.

* Get started

          The first step in often the hardest step to take. It’s a determination that gets you started.

          There is nothing more fatiguing than worrying about an uncompleted task so sooner you start the better. Those who hesitate come last.

          Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today. Do it now!
