Rolling On – The Best Handful of Tips 135 – LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP

Leaders can be recognised because their people give superior performances.

         A leader inspires and motivates people to go beyond what they thought they could accomplish.

         Good leaders are always in demand so make an effort to hone your leadership skills.

         If you can combine intelligence and humanity with enthusiasm you are likely to be a  good leader.

Five of the best ways to improve your leadership skills

* Improve your communication skills

         Keep records of names and brief details so you can call people by name. Take an interest in their interests and in their family details.

         Make a special effort to keep your messages honest, simple and clear.

         You will please more people by listening to them than talking to them.

         Don’t forget it’s what people want to know that’s important not necessarily what you want to tell them.

* Have a positive attitude

         Be passionate about your job and full of enthusiasm for your ideas. Remember, ‘enthusiasm is contagious’.

         Accept responsibilities. Learn to make fast, sound decisions.

         Leaders are people who know where they want to go, and with enthusiasm, get up and go.

 * Become a role model

         Set a good example both at work and in the community. Dress well, be polite and keep ‘your cool‘ at all times.

* Consult people

Learn to be a skilled delegator. Delegate down to where the actions take place in the organisation.

         Give your workers responsibilities. Discuss changes or problems with them.

         Consult them so they feel involved in major decisions. Make them feel important and wanted.

          The art of leadership consists of getting people to do what you want to be done because they want to do it.

* Give credit

         Give credit for workers successes and support them when they make mistakes.  Mistakes are a good way to learn.

         A simple “Thank you. Well done” is a great way to encourage people to make greater efforts.

         High-performance organisations have moved beyond autocratic leadership styles into the cooperative approach where management and staff share their vision.
