We all have one thing in common – a 24 hour day. It’s how we use that time that makes the difference.
The way you think determines the way you act and the way you act will decide not only your future but also the future of the business you are in.
Thinking time is essential for solving problems and hatching new ideas. Good ideas need to be well thought through – they need ‘incubation time‘.
Know the time you work best and use that time for thinking and planning.
Five of the best tips on ways to think and plan
* Get yourself organised
What is the best time of the day for thinking? We all have good and poor times. Identify your best time and make the most of it. Decide to set aside this precious time and guard it intensely.
*Find a haven to get away from distractions
Inform colleagues you don’t want to be disturbed.
Avoid interruptions.
Can you go home to work, or go for a walk in the park to think and plan?
*Turn off your cell phone
Transfer calls to others.
Refrain from reading emails. (Emails should be read and answered at specific times, not when you get bored.)
*If possible, plan your “thinking time” the previous day
The next day arrive at work early before other workers. It’s amazing how much you will achieve in your first hour. Do your urgent work first, then slow down, relax and make time for thinking and planning.
*Make use of your travel time
Travelling gives you time to think, especially on long flights.
Visiting different environments lets you to see things through new eyes, gives you new ideas and a new perspective.
Unless your time is well-managed nothing else can be managed.
