You only get one chance to make a first impression so do your homework, arrive on time and look smart. Imagine you are going out on a first date.
Five of the best tips when applying for a job
*First do your homework
Before you apply for a job to find out about the organisation you hope to join read their annual report and talk to staff and clients.
Obtain a copy of the job description and read it well.
*Dress suitably for the organisation
Most organisations have an unofficial dress code. See how staff dress and dress in a similar fashion. It’s better to be overdressed than underdressed when being interviewed.
*Be punctual
Check out the location in advance. Arrive early so you can relax and be composed for the interview.
Take your references, curriculum vitae and certificates just in case they are needed.
*During the interview
Be polite, smile and be natural. Be modest and honest. Be friendly and enthusiastic about work. Try to demonstrate you are an interesting person and an achiever who get things done.
*Don’t dominate the interview
Let the interviewers ask the questions. Answer concisely and be prepared to amplify if asked.
Try to show you could provide a service instead of asking for a job.
