Aim for SUCCESS
Success occurs when opportunity and preparation meet.
When people are asked the characteristics of successful people they often mention such things as talent and determination, but there are many other attributes that contribute to a happy and successful career.
Five of the best attributes to help build a successful career
* Build your self-confidence and leadership skills
Accept responsibilities in organisations outside your work environment to build your self-confidence and leadership skills.
You will become more confident in dealing with different types of people, have fun in the process while networking and making useful contacts.
* Be honest and sincere
Integrity is usually acquired over the years by following the examples set by parents, peer groups and teachers. It’s also learned through religious teaching and from respected leaders and mentors.
The most respected leaders, politicians and managers are the ones who are honest and sincere – people that you feel you can trust.
* Become self-reliant
Self-discipline is often developed when you are subjected to stressful situations and are forced to rely on your own inner strength and sheer will power.
Mountaineering, marathon running, competitive sports and even international travel can help develop this attribute.
Self-disciple allows you to take control of your life. If you want to succeed you must learn to allocate your time so you do the most important things first.
Try to lead a balanced life with time for your family, your work and your recreation. “Moderation in all things ” is a good motto to follow.
* Develop your talents
Talent is the ability to do easily what others find difficult. Some people think talent is a combination of your genes, your background, your discipline and your training.
Whatever it is, take the time to develop your own individual talents – develop the things you enjoy doing most and which you do best, and then use that confidence to tackle more difficult tasks.
* Be determined to succeed
If you believe strongly in achieving something but have failed, have another attempt. Try, try and try again. Circumstances, conditions and people can change.
Many inventions and medical breakthroughs would not have occurred if people had not persisted with their experiments after their initial failures.
Success doesn’t depend on what you undertake but on what you finish. It’s ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration.
