Become CONFIDENT – Rolling On – Management Tip 27

Become CONFIDENT

Life’s battles don’t always go to the strongest or the fastest person, but sooner or later the person who wins is the one who thinks they can.

          To succeed, you have to believe in something with such a passion that it becomes a reality.

          Some people are self-motivated, others are motivated by encouragement and some by set-backs making them stubborn and determined to succeed.

          Confidence comes from a feeling of well being – it’s a state of mind.  You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. If you have confidence in yourself, others will too.

          As your confidence increases your competence increases.

A handful of tips to help build your confidence

* Give things a go

          Accept new challenges.

           Never decline a task because you are not sure if you can do it. How do you know until you try?

* Master new skills and learn new ones

          Constantly upgrade your communication skills.

          Master the art of public speaking.

          Learn to write right – clear, simple and readable.

* Gain new skills and build your confidence outside work

          Join clubs or worthwhile voluntary organisations.

          Try taking a leadership role in social, service,  or sports clubs.

          Make an effort to meet new people and network at meetings. Chat to them and take an interest in their backgrounds.

          Travel and attend international events. When travelling you will be challenged to cope with many unexpected happenings.        These will help build your confidence.

* Constantly self evaluate

          After completing a task be honest with yourself. Keep asking yourself; ” What mistakes did I make?” “How can I do things better next time?”

          Treat mistakes as valuable lessons learned. Self-evaluation is one of the best ways to build skills and confidence.

          Ask close friends about their opinions.

* Practice, practice, practice

          Whatever skill you require, whether it be public speaking, playing a sport, playing a musical instrument, or chairing a meeting, –  the more you practice, the better you will become.

          Practice makes perfect as your experience and confidence build.

          If you have done your homework, are confident of your judgement, and the issue is important enough, stand your ground. You won’t regret it!
