Lock-Down Tips

If you don’t look after your body no one else will.

        This is a repeated blog to remind you of what you should be doing during this lockdown crisis.

        Go back to the basic skills. Watch your diet, exercise regularly and keep mentally active.

        “If it is to be, it’s up to me!”

A handful of tips to help you stay healthy

* Eat sensible meals

        Plan nutritious and regular meals.  Maintain a balanced diet. Study healthy foods.

        Your diet should include plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and complex carbohydrates. Reduce the intake of fats, sugar and salt. Eat moderately. Don’t get carried away with unusual diets.

        Reduce your intake of coffee and alcoholic drinks. Try alternatives like drinking safe boiled water, green tea, healthy low-sugar juices like fruit smoothies.

        Drink plenty of water. Watch out for ice in countries that have dubious water supplies.

        Keep a regular check on your weight.

* Exercise regularly

        Don’t spend the day sitting in front of a computer or a TV set.. Move about as much as possible. Don’t do all your communications online.  Get up and visit people, if this is possible.

        You don’t have to go to a gym to maintain fitness. Try walking up stairs instead of using a lift.

        Enjoy brisk walks and exploring.

        Do tasks you have put off doing for years. Clean out your draws, empty cupboards, dump old files etc.

        Clean your car, inside and out.

*  Get enough sleep

        Most adults need 7- 8 hours’ sleep a night.

        There is an old proverb that says; “Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.”

        You need to be physically tired to get enough sleep so keep moving and active.

* No pill-popping, smoking or illegal drugs

        Smoking and drug-taking are harmful to the body. If you have a problem seek professional medical help.

        Good foods should contain all the vitamins

 and minerals you need.

* Keep mentally active

        Keep your mind active. Make time for reading, doing quizzes, playing online games.        Try ringing and chatting with old friends.

        Learn new skills and make new friends.

        Set up a business or social meeting on-line. There are many free options.

        Enjoy life, have fun and keep smiling and keep busy.
