To Gain A GOOD JOB – Rolling On – Management Tip 95

To Gain a Good Job

What we want to be can be more important than what we are.

         Top  jobs go to those who update their qualifications,  master new skills and are well known and respected.

         Gain experiences  by starting in a lowly position  and work your way up – the only job you start at the top is when you dig a hole.

         Be prepared to work hard and make a name for yourself  by getting jobs done well, and completed on time.

A handful of tips to help you gain a good job

* Constantly learn new skills

         Things are constantly changing so it is essential to adapt to new ideas and technologies – especially communication skills.

         Commit yourself to a life of on-going personal development.

         Attend courses and workshops. Read and study widely.

         Learn a new language.

         Qualifications and skills are easy to carry around and look good on your C.V.

* Try new roles

         To feel the exhilaration of success accept new challenges. This will help build your confidence.

         Never turn down a job because you are not sure if you can do it. How do you know until you try? Try to project an aura of confidence.

          New experiences will help you move nearer to the top position you are seeking.

* Build new networks

         By joining organisations and taking on responsible roles you will build your self-esteem.

         Make fresh contacts by joining new organisations .          There are many cultural, educational, sporting and service clubs in most areas that would be worth joining and help you develop new skills.

         Find one that suits your interests and your needs.

         Keep networking.

         Who you know can be more important than what you know!

* Stay focused with to-do lists

         Set bold goals and make up list of activities to be achieved,  by when.

         Try to learn from people who inspire you and see if you can get a good mentor or two. Many people in senior positions enjoy coaching willing learners.

* Be ambitious

         Make your dreams come true by breaking

 your goals into short-term objectives and  setting time-limits.

         There is nothing like a dream to plan your future.

         We work best when we challenge ourselves  to deadlines, especially if we tell others about our plans.

         Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
