Don’t spend half your life with a job you do not enjoy – life is too short for that!
When entering the workforce you need to plan your career. If you are not happy at work you need to look start looking for a new job.
A handful of tips to help you find a career you enjoy
* At the beginning
you need:
A good basic education.
Variety of work experiences. Look for holiday jobs.
A variety of social experiences. Join clubs; travel allows you to meet people from different backgrounds.
Make strong contacts. Who you know is very important.
Seek career counselling and guidance.
* What are you good at?
Identify your interests and your strengths.
Make four lists.
Your academic qualifications and your special talents.
Jobs you think you might enjoy.
Things you do well.
Jobs you dislike doing.
* Make a plan and put it in writing
What do you want to do and how are you going to go about it?
* Start looking
Look for a career that would make the best use of your qualifications, experiences and talents. A job with enough aspects you enjoy is a good starting place.
* Try to join a large organisation
Look for a large organisation that offers good training and career opportunities.
Talk to friends and family for advice. Who you know can be more important than what you know.
