CHANGE – Overcoming Resistance –
People resist changes for many reasons. Many are scared of the unknown.
Will they still be employed after changes are made?
How will any changes affect their work and their status at work?
A handful of tips to help you reduce resistance when you plan to make changes within an organisation
* Involve people when planning changes
Tell people why changes are necessary. Give them the facts.
Involve your people in the planning process as much as possible. The more they are involved the more they will support any changes.
* Consider and answer critics
Listen, listen very carefully to all concerns!
Consider and answer criticisms of any proposed changes. Be honest with the facts.
* Run small pilot trials and implement changes in stages
This may show that many fears are unfounded.
* Aim for constant improvements at all times
This should be a constant policy. What did we do right? What went wrong? How can we do better next time?
* Reward people who make helpful suggestions
By being generous with your rewards you will encourage others to contribute and make worthwhile contributions.
