MOTIVATION – Stimulating Workers – A Handful of Tips 46

MOTIVATION – Stimulate Workers –

       Even if people are fairly treated and have pleasant working conditions they do not do their best work until they have the freedom to show what they are capable of doing and are motivated to do it.

A handful of tips to remind you of ways to motivate people

* What motivates people?

  • More responsibility
  • Pride in doing a good job
  • Personal growth and development
  • Advancement and recognition of achievement.

* More responsibility

       If you delegate authority you are telling your people you trust them.

        Job enrichment is a key to motivating people.

        Most people will respond to the challenge and be motivated to make a special effort to succeed.

* Pride in doing a good job

        We have a great feeling of satisfaction when we have done our best and can show off our skills.

        We are proud when others know we have done a good job.

        Tell your people when they have done a good job – praise loudly!

* Personal growth and development

        Make work more interesting by giving people more opportunities to try different tasks and to show what they can do.

        Give them challenging tasks.

        Encourage workers to study, attend training sessions and seminars, join clubs and education groups and travel, when this becomes possible once again.

* Advancement and recognition of achievement

         Sincere praise and simple rewards for good work will usually stimulate workers to increase their efforts and this could lead to their advancement in the organisation.

        The most important act in motivation is individual recognition.
