WORK – Rejoining the Workforce – A Handful of Tips 78

WORK – Rejoining the Workforce –

        After a long absence from work, boosting your confidence and self-esteem is just as important as retraining. You may have been a student, raising a family, laid off, returning from international work, or retiring from the police or the armed forces.

        The time has come to work out your own salvation – don’t depend on others.

        Get ready for new challenges and opportunities when they come.

A Handful of Tips to help you rejoin the workforce

* Improve your image

        Smarten up your appearance. If necessary invest in new clothes and a neat hairstyle. Your clothes don’t have to be new but they need to be smart.

        Exercise regularly and make sure you have a healthy diet. Keep off excessive alcohol and drugs.

        Keep up to date with topical issues. Try to become an interesting person.

* Increase your confidence and self-esteem

       Join organizations such as service clubs, sports clubs,  or cultural clubs and take on responsibilities as they arise acting as secretary, treasurer, or president. You could learn new skills and gain confidence.

        Help with community projects, school functions, political or religious groups.

        Try new things – new hobbies, new sports, new foods.

        When it’s again possible, travel to new places to develop confidence and meet new people.

        Praise and reward yourself for your successes and achievements.

* Learn new skills or update your old ones

       Enroll in courses to learn new skills. Distance learning can be carried out in your own home.

* Start job hunting

       List your talents and any previous achievements. What things are you proud of?

        Start with volunteering to gain new experience.

        Your best chance to get a job is through friends, family and acquaintances. Contact people who might be able to help you.

* Believe in yourself

        Everyone has a talent of one type or another, but many people lack the courage to make the best use of it.

        If you believe in yourself you can go out and get what you want out of life.

        Your first step will be to build up your confidence and then with determination and persistence you should reach your goal.

        As a recruiter I always looked for ambitious people to join my workforce. You can teach skills but you cannot teach attitude

        Be enthusiastic about your desire to join the workforce.  Be ambitious and persistent!
