         Get to know your corporate culture – read the annual reports.

         Get yourself a mentor or two.

         Be ambitious. Work hard and give more than what is expected.

         Learn the skills of questioning and listening.

         Promote yourself. Network and help others.

         Maintain ethical standards. Dress well.

Be patient – build good relationships with both colleagues and clients. You can never have too many friends in the business.

         Pause and think things through before you take action.

         Commit yourself to a life of ongoing personal development.

         Give your team more responsibility, so they can grow and develop on the job. Use all the brains you have and all the brains you can borrow.
