CONFIDENCE – Management Tip 39

Build Your Confidence

Confidence is not something we are born with,  but it can be learned with experiences.

         If you are ambitious you will need to improve your confidence to lead and get jobs done.

         Never be afraid to seize any sensible opportunity – become ambitious.

         Many people are self-motivated, while others are motivated by setbacks and become determined to succeed.

         If you have confidence in yourself, others will too.

A Handful of Tips to help you gain confidence

* Accept new challenges

         Never decline a task because you are not sure if you can do it. How will you know until you try?

* Keep upgrading your skills.

         Continually upgrade your skills and learn new ones – especially your communication skills. By performing in public, in a debating club, a Toastmasters club, a drama group, or a choir, you will gain confidence.

         Study, attend summer schools, or take night classes.

         Internet study courses are well worthwhile to gain confidence and to learn new skills at a pace that suits you.

*  Try new things

         Join clubs or worthwhile voluntary organisations.  You can gain new skills outside your work by taking on responsibilities in service or sports clubs such as the Lions, or Rotary type of club.

         Meeting new people from other walks of life, especially from other countries, helps build your confidence. Supporting new immigrants in the transition into your country will help give both parties new skills.

* Master meeting skills

         All organisations have annual meetings and all use some form of parliamentary procedure.   By learning how to run a meeting and how to delegate you will build up your confidence and your leadership skills.

*  Travel

         Traveling with help build your confidence. You will be challenged into all sorts of unusual situations – you see the world through new eyes and gain confidence in ways to cope with abnormal events.

         Life’s battles don’t always go to the strongest or the fastest person, but sooner or later the person who wins is the one who thinks they can.
