Your FUTURE – Management Tip 44

Self Improvement

        Over the next decade, you will need many new skills. The best jobs will go to those who update their qualifications and master new skills.

         Most things get done in small doses. Try to improve things one step at a time.

A Handful of Tips to help you make life improvements

* Add new skills

        What we want to be is more important than what we are.

         Commit yourself to a life of ongoing personal development.

         Join a large work organisation that teaches new skills and offers a sound career

development road.

         Attend courses and workshops. Consider summer school classes.

         Read widely.

         New qualifications and new skills are easy to carry around. You never know when you will need them.

* Build your confidence

         Accept new challenges

         Build your self-esteem by joining organisations and taking responsible roles.

         Never turn down a job because you are not sure if you can do it. How do you know until you try?

* Travel widely

         Travel to other countries and observe different cultures. This builds self-confidence and makes contacts.

         Learn new languages.

* Seek new information

         Be curious. Don’t take anything for granted.      Ask the hard questions –‘what’, ‘why’, ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘how ‘, and ‘how much’?

         Explore new ideas.

         Read widely and keep up with developing trends.

* Be ambitious

         Make your dreams come true.

         Break your goals into short-term objectives, setting time limits. People work best when they challenge themselves to deadlines, especially if they tell others their plans.
