GETTING A RAISE – Odds & Ends 53

Your promotion and retention in the workforce will depend on your determination to succeed and your ability to maintain a good work record.

A Handful of tips to help you get promoted, to maintain work, and earn more money

* GET NOTICED

         Get a good reputation

      Be punctual for work – (arrive early).

         Get your jobs done quickly and efficiently.

         Employers notice which workers are reliable and perform well.

         Achievers are the people who get the promotions.

* SET AN EXAMPLE

         Be a good role model.

         Earn the respect of your fellow workers.

         Dress for the position you want –  be neat and tidy.

         Select your mentors and friends carefully.

         Very often, who you know can be more important than what you know.

* SPEAK THE TRUTH

         Be objective and honest with your comments

         Consider your views objectively before commenting and try to be fair and honest. Always try to back up your statements with facts.

         Don’t say what you believe others want to hear. Give independent ideas and opinions.

* BECOME A PROBLEM SOLVER

         Don’t rush to your boss with your problems.

Take responsibility for your own actions.

         If you need to report a problem always recommend a solution for consideration.

         Be positive in your outlook.

* THE ‘GOLDEN RULE’

         Never forget the ‘golden rule’.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

         Treat your colleagues and clients how you would like to be treated – in a friendly manner, sincerely, sympathetically, and respectfully.
